About Us
Halloween
2010 marks the beginning of a very special year for us culminating in a very special anniversary in 2011, and because of this
we decided that it was time to delve into our archives and the Merry Meet Book of Shadows to gather together our largest ever
selection of magical wares and then put them online.
Some
of the spells in this anniversary edition of our catalogue belong firmly to our heritage and have been resurrected from the
past (the beautiful range of Fairy Magic Spells for example) and others ~ although of similar age ~ have never been seen before.
But, whatever their history, this collection is bound to enchant in every way.
When we started making spell kits all
those years ago, who could have imagined where it would lead to. Seek The Magic Org is recognised
the world over as being the leading and most traditional manufacturer of magical wares.
Founded before
the turn of the century, we make everything the old fashioned way ~ by hand, and our attention to detail is legendary.
We know exactly what goes into every spell as we pack every box and bag ourselves.
I’d like to
take this opportunity to explain the intent behind this catalogue. It reflects our love for where we live, our faith in the
world and our hope for the future as well as drawing upon the heritage of our past ~ in fact some of our herbal recipes are
over 350 years old!
My signature
is your assurance that, in an increasingly disaffected and impersonal world, our boxes, bags and tubes are filled with
only good things. We do it all ourselves, right down to sticking on the labels ~ and if you get one which is a little wonky,
then you know that it was probably applied very late at night with love and laughter.
Remember, the key to your destiny
resides within you and magic can only become reality when your hopes and desires come truly from your own heart and I trust that whilst browsing this, our greatest ever catalogue that you will
indeed discover the magic within…..
Once Upon A
Time . . .
Originally based in Greenwich in London, the company is now to be found
in the mystical heart of Shakespeare's England ~ Stratford upon Avon ~ and our magical workshops (including a fully stocked and working Apothecary) are literally packed to the rafters with all kinds
of herbs, roots, tree resins, candles and other magical ingredients. Unlike other spell retailers and "e-tailers"
you can of course come to visit us and wander through our store and apothecary.
We have over 350 different spells in our catalogue and literally have
a spell for every occasion! The one thing you can be guaranteed of is that we do not sell premade kits that have been
made in a factory or warehouse abroad and then shipped half way around the world.
Nowadays we no longer sell to other retailers, but we still
ship our entire range throughout the world and have customers that buy again and again from us. But the most exciting
development is that 2011 sees the launch of our new Franchise package - which might see one of our stores near you.....
Magic means
different things to different people.
To us, it is ‘the subtle movement of natural energies
to bring about a desired or needful change.’
Seek The Magic Org is Britain's original maker and purveyor of magical
wares. We have been making spells in boxes, bags and tubes since the turn of the century. Everything we make, we make with
love. There are no factories or warehouses involved in the process of spell making from us - and neither do we outsource the
making process to others. We have individual components made for us where we are unable to make them ourselves, but ensure
that wherever possible they are made in Britain and of the best quality possible. We gather herbs and incense from all over
the world, ensuring that they also are of the finest quality to include them in our spells, where possible from fair-trade
suppliers.
We do not use
pre moulded plastic packaging. Everything, from the original writing of the spell to the final packaging where the magic is
sealed inside is done in a truly magical environment in the mystical heart of Shakespeare's England, Stratford upon Avon.
We are committed to producing these beautifully handcrafted products in an ethical way, and in a magical environment.
Each of the components has been carefully created to ensure that all their magic and mystery is captured. Each one is packed
by hand with magical intent.
We are all capable
of great things. What holds us back is fear, not ability. Living consciously means thinking about our actions, our words,
our ideas and our feelings. We are all in touch with the greater unity, with the cosmic consciousness, with magic. The practice
of magic allows us to connect with the essential elements of life. It opens our hearts to the joy of love. People have grown
disillusioned with giving their power away to someone or something else. Magic is about retaining that power, about taking
responsibility for your own thoughts and actions. Getting in touch with the essential you really can be liberating. All of
a sudden you realise that you do have the power to change your life.
No product we stock has been tested on animals and, as far as possible, we use
pure natural ingredients sourced from reputable suppliers who endeavour to provide an entirely cruelty-free and environmentally
sustainable product. Our loose-fill and exterior packaging is eco-friendly and bio-degradable wherever possible.
A
connection with the magical life force happens when your eyes meet the beauty of the moonlight or when you hear the rustling
voice of the autumn leaves dancing in the wind. When you bring this energy into your heart you are creating a magic spell.
The art of ritual magic is intuitive in all of us, you don't
have to have inherited it from your grandmother, you don't have to be a member of a coven or call yourself a 'witch'
to be able to cast a magic spell. We all create magic everyday (either good or bad) without necessarily being aware of the
energy we are conjuring.
When you use
ritual tools to create magic you are consciously harnessing energy in order to bring about change in your life. Next time
you hear the voice of the wind, or feel inspired by a starry night or want to run for the sheer joy of being alive know that
you have made the connection.
Our Flagship Store in Stratford upon Avon
The popular belief is that witchcraft has two
forms: black magic that is more manipulative and dangerous and white magic which helps one gain clarity, wisdom and prosperity.
Here we practice only white magic, of course. So forget about picking up hexes and curses, it’s only
charms here!
As for the quirky decor, the aim was
to instil the feeling of stepping into the private space of a witch’s house. Despite the ornate shelving, the black chandeliers, antique lanterns and velvet curtains
draped over the windows, it doesn’t send shivers down your spine but invokes a strange sense of familiarity
in fact ~ it’s as though a
life long companion taps you on the shoulder and whispers, 'the time has come, I am ready to be explored, and your journey
to help others to seek the magic begins…..
Your journey
into our magical world is like encountering a long lost friend, someone you have known since
childhood; something that was always found when looked for, a life force that connected everything and made the world an extraordinary
place, this essence has an ancient feeling about it, a timeless wonder.
Since the beginning of time people of all cultures
and traditions have used symbols, plants, fire, water, charms and other amulets more to communicate with a higher realm, to
honour life's journey and to empower themselves with courage, wisdom and love.
Our modern
world has lost its connection with the old magic and has tried to replace it with other things that have no heart. Yet the
ritual magic of the old ways transforms everything into the extraordinary as all are deemed magical and life a thrilling adventure.
The Creaky Cauldron holds the essence
of ancient mysteries and has a connection with old magical methods of working and is offering to share this with others by
offering them the tools and knowledge to discover the magic both within themselves and within our beautiful natural world.
So why not come and see us, and browse our shelves, packed with all manner of things from wands and spells, to magical
sweets and gris gris bags ~ you might just be surprised at what you find.
Just look for the sign of
the Creaky Cauldron.
The Magic Alley .
. .
So, which came first: Magic Alley or Diagon Alley? An interesting
question, and here's the answer......
In 1990, when we started to make spells on a commercial basis we sold
them by mail order and at craft markets. As our fame and reputation spread it became obvious that we needed larger premises.
That way, we could still control the quality of the product that we make whilst being able to source and store more ingredients.
So we set out to find somewhere suitable. It needed to be spacious, old fashioned (we have never liked modern
buildings) and traditional and it needed that essence of magic that is unique to what we do. We soon found it, just
off the Greenwich High Road.
As part of the Greenwich Enterprise Zone, we were offered the part of the ground
floor and the whole basement of a building called Siren House - a huge brick Victorian Warehouse behind wrought iron railings
and down a cobbled street. Entry to our part of the building was a small purple door set into the side of the building.
If you weren't looking for it you wouldn't find it. But for those that were looking to seek the magic, all they
needed was to look for the sign of the Creaky Cauldron and to enter our world.
Once inside, you went down a few
steps into our magical workshops. Along a wide flagstoned corridor were rooms on either side, each full of different magical things.
The corridor was lit by old fashioned gas lamps and were of interesting and magical ingredients: there were broomsticks and
wands; candles and incense; herbs and resins in an apothecary; books and scroll;, a haberdasheryfull of ribbons and bells and
many other things. For all the world it looked just like a victorian street full of magical shops - it was
our very own Magic Alley.
Of course, seven years later, in 1997 another magical street hit the headlines
for a very different reason.
A certain young boy wizard was taken to a magical alley to buy everything he needed
for Magic School..........
