HATHAWAY TEAROOMS

njs/2015HATHAWAY.jpg

Located on the High Street, Hathaway Tea Rooms is a Grade II listed building, which was constructed around 1610 and is known as one of Stratford's most historic properties. It has enjoyed a number of 'lives' over the years, known as The George Inn in 1728, becoming an apothecary and surgery in the late 1700s and early 1800s, before being turned into a thriving shoe shop until the early 1900s. Finally, in 1931, the building became a tea room.

Having been bought by Steven Smith and Rick Allen in 2012, the pair have lovingly restored what had become a more modern gastro-pub interior, turning back the clock and creating a slice of olde worlde England in the heart of Stratford. Gorgeous yet mismatched armchairs and chairs abound, haphazard walls and floors take you back in time, the sun glints through the leaded windows. Spread across three floors and a pretty, 50-seater, smoke free garden, Hathaway Tea Rooms offer everything you would want from a traditional eatery.

THE GOLDEN BROOMSTICK AT MAGIC ALLEY

njs/2015coffee.jpg

The Golden Broomstick can be found on Magic Alley's first floor and is one of Stratford's hidden wonders. The Golden Broomstick is exactly the kind of café that you'd expect to find a hobbit or a wizard enjoying a cup of tea or a foaming ButterBeer.

We visited in the winter and enjoyed a delicious gingerbread latte and hot pumpkin juice that were to die for.  The menu tempted us with more treats than the Mad Hatter or Willy Wonka could shake a stick at (both of whom would be completely at home here!) and also features the most divine selection of Hot Chocolates and Ice Cream Milk Floats.

It's cosy, atmospheric and the ideal place to relax far from the madding crowd.

CAFE NERO

The first cup of coffee in the day is undoubtedly the most important, and Café Nero understands this. With friendly service every morning, the staff there always provide me with just the right start to my day. They remember my order every morning, serve me great coffee and have an infectious sense of humour that is always welcome first thing. On weekends, I’ve been known to plug my laptop in and spend a few hours there drinking coffee and eating their freshly baked croissants or enjoying their selection of muffins and cakes, all in the comfort of a friendly environment and a comfy couch.

It's a great place to relax!
