Getting Here & Parking

Christmas can be an extravagant time of the year; however Stratford does have some ways you can enjoy the festive season with a clearer conscience. The perfect place to abandon the car and explore on foot, Stratford has a fast and efficient park and ride service as well as good local train and bus links.

Stratford upon Avon is at the heart of the country and is well served by access points from across the country and further afield.  We are in easy reach of major airports, motorways and have good train and canal access too if you're coming by water.

Once you've got here, there are a number of parking options depending on your requirements:

Park and Ride North (Bishopton

& Car Parks throughout the town


To drive from London:

Take the M40 motorway to Junction 15 and follow signs. Time approx: 2 hours. Stratford is approximately 20 minutes from Junction 15.


By train from London:

There are several direct trains daily from London’s Marylebone Station.  Time approx: 2.5 hours.  It is possible, to see a matinee at the Courtyard Theatre and get back to London by train.


By train from Birmingham:

There is an excellent and regular service from Birmingham Snow Hill and Birmingham Moor Street which means you can just pop across for some shopping!


By Coach from London:

National Express Coaches run several trips a day between London Victoria and Stratford-upon-Avon. Time approx: 3 hours depending on traffic.


By Coach from Birmingham:

There are two National Express coaches a day from Digbeth - but the bus service is much more regular!



The Stratford Park and Ride (Bishopton)

Stratford Park and Ride is located off Bishopton Lane near to the roundabout with the A46 (T) and the A3400 Birmingham Road. Signs have been provided on the approach roads from the north and west to direct drivers to the site.  Parking overnight on the Stratford Park and Ride site is not allowed. Please use the off-street car parks in the town centre operated by Stratford-on-Avon District Council.

The Stratford Park and Ride is closed on:

•Sundays (first Sunday in October to last Sunday in March)

•Christmas Day



Shopmobility

The Shopmobility unit is located in Bridgefoot car park, near the Tourist Information office. This is a free service which provides powered scooters and wheelchairs for hire. Whether it’s long term or short term, for holidays, visitors, residents or those with temporary injuries, Shopmobility can help you to make the most of your time in Stratford-upon-Avon.

The opening hours are from 9am until 4pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays, and from 10am until 3pm on Mondays.  If possible please book in advance to ensure that a scooter or chair is available and to reserve a parking space. This can be done by phoning Stratford Shopmobility on:

Disabled Parking

For Blue Badge Holders (and holders of any other official disabled parking permits) and motorcycles parking is free in all District Council car parks except Bridgefoot and Unicorn Meadow parks.

In an on-street parking bay, Badge Holders may park for free and for as long as they need to unless there is a traffic sign specifying a time limit for disabled badge holders or the traffic sign states that the bay is for a specific use only, for example taxi rank, residents parking.

In a disabled bay you must ensure that you read the road signage to ensure that you do not overstay the maximum time permitted. The following areas have designated disabled bays:

Sheep Street Rear Access Area: maximum stay 3 hours at all times

Henley Street (within pedestrianized area): maximum stay 30 minutes, no return within 1 hour between the hours of 8am and 11am

Henley Street (Windsor Street entrance): no limit

Union Street: maximum stay 1 hour no return within 2 hours, between 8am and 6pm

Sheep Street: maximum stay 3 hours, no return within 3 hours between 8am and 6pm

Chapel Lane: no limit

Bridge Street: no limit between 8am and 6pm

Waterside: no limit

Rother Street: no limit


Car Parks

Stratford-upon-Avon has 8 District Council Car Parks with over 2,800 parking spaces; there is also an NCP Car Park on Rother Street with 256 spaces and the Civic Hall Car Park on Rother Street with 52 spaces (which is Pay & Display that is open 24 hours).

Two of the towns car parks , Bridgefoot multi-storey and the adjacent Unicorn Meadow are barrier controlled ‘Pay on Foot’, which means you must take a ticket on entering the car park, retain it, and pay the required fee before collecting your car.

Parking is also available at the Cricket Club (This is Pay & Display); and at the Marina near the Holiday Inn Bridgefoot (Pay & Display). All the car parks are conveniently situated (within 10 minutes’ walk) for all amenities and shopping.

There are signs on all approach roads and throughout the town to guide you to the car parks.


On Street Parking

If you decide to park "on street" then you are required to take a ticket from the on-street Pay & Display machines. The parking fees and parking time varies depending where you park.   We recommend you consult the signs and parking machines before leaving your car to shop - and take care - the Parking Attendants in Stratford are extremely zealous!
